This half-day pairing is the clearest first look at Zanzibar: the living town and the island that once held prisoners and later a quarantine station.
In Stone Town a local guide threads the House of Wonders, Old Fort, Sultan’s Palace, Freddie Mercury’s childhood streets and the former slave market at the Anglican Cathedral. Darajani Market adds spice, fruit and the noise of an ordinary morning.
A private boat then crosses to Prison Island. The giant Aldabra tortoises are the reason most guests come; the views back to the harbour are the reason they linger. Hotel pickup is arranged as an add-on based on where you sleep.
