Mikumi is the most practical Big-Five-adjacent day from the island. You leave the hotel around 5:00, fly inland, and spend the morning on the Mkata floodplain where elephants, giraffes, zebra, buffalo, lions and antelope share the grass.
Lunch is a picnic in the park. A second game-drive window includes hippo pools before the afternoon flight home. NokNok handles the Zanzibar Airport side — the part most operators forget — so you are not hunting a taxi at 5 a.m.
The dry months of June to October are the easiest for wildlife; the park stays open all year.
